Hi,
This isn't really a question, I wanted to share my experience with other Miva Users about the Moogle (Google site map) product from Phosphor Media. I hope that Miva will find this post acceptable, if not, I guess they'll delete it.

I started a new Miva store in early May (new domain for re-branding), and used a 301 re-direct from my old site. The 301 re-direct didn't work out quite as anticipated and my google indexing was dropping like a brick (down from 40k pages to only 600). So I decided to remove the 301 re-direct from the old site and basically start over.

After I removed the 301 re-direct, my google indexing all but disappeared. I was REALLY disappointed as I'd worked for several years to obtain my current indexing and page rank (which was between 5-7).

I used the Moogle module which I had purchased from Bruce at Phosphor Media and submitted it to Google on May 25. Today, June 2, I now have almost 18,000 pages in Google's index again -- on a brand new site with only 3 quality in-bound links that aren't even showing up in Google yet!

I still have no page rank -- but I'm confident with some work, I'll get there. I am placing in the number 1 position on a lot of my products and at least on the 1st or 2nd page so far.

The technical assistance I received from Bruce is/was excellent and I would highly recommend this product to anyone running a Miva store -- we also use Merchant Optimizer and block Google's crawl of our Miva store with a robot text file.

It's worked out so much better than expected and I'm THRILLED that in only one week, I'm not only back in Google's index -- but with "in-yer-face" indexing! (giggle)

HTH! :D

Finally, someone posts. Moogle (http://www.designextend.com/page/miva/PROD/moogle)is one of those modules that many overlook, yet provides a great service to your store.

Yeah! Moogle ROCKS! (and who could live without Merchant Optimizer?)

Merchant Optimizer (http://www.designextend.com/page/miva/PROD/PM_MOD-OPTIMIZE) is another great tool, however, it's not a standard for everyone. It's usage is ideal for specific purposes, so it really depends on what you need to do.

With that, it does what it does very well. We have many clients running it and it's ability to dupe is excellent. It's ideal for any store doing a significant amount of business - and it's one of the only options for high-traffic stores.

In fact, we've many times used it as a temporary usage module for some stores that only sporadically get high-traffic (due to being on TV spotlights or running special promotions).

Well, Optimizer is ALSO good for SEO without the server overhead of SFL links or the hassle of implementing SFL links. Though its original intent was to enhance performance, it creates very clean looking .HTML links.

It can be easily setup as simple "doorway" pages or the actual pages that shoppers use to browse the site. One client found that by adding a static page search feature such as Picosearch.com they can also easily get a powerful search feature for next to nothing. (picosearch is free up to 250 pages). If you have a lot of static content pages in your site anyway, using Optimizer pages and something like picosearch makes it easy for your customers to search your content and catalog pages from the same interface.

That's exactly why we added to our site -- for SEO -- we're at Hostasaurus, so server issues are not even a consideration -- no matter how much traffic we get Hostasaurus keeps our site running without issue -- always! :-)

A newbie question.
Why would you want to block the Google crawl of your site?

A newbie question.
Why would you want to block the Google crawl of your site?
Because you should only have one copy of a page indexable on your site. If you use a static mirror, search engines shouldn't get to your miva pages.

So, if I just have regular miva store (without mirror) I don't need to block crawlers?

If you're not using a mirror of your Miva Store, then you wouldn't want to block crawlers or else you would never show up in Google's index!

If you have a busy store and server load becomes a problem, then you should use Merchant Optimizer to mirror your site to minimize server load -- or just for SEO.

If you use static pages (mirror of your Miva Store) and you don't block the store out from the bots, you'll end up with duplicate content and could, and probably will, be penalized by Google -- duplicate content is considered spam.

Nope.

Well, you could if you don't want your site to be indexed <G>. Some folks use modified "blocking" files (robots.txt) to limit access to certain parts of the store, for example, account and customer login screens, but the basic idea is just give search engines one source for pages.

Well if I have the Copenicus SEO suite on my Miva 4 site already set up with HT rewrite on the server side working well can I bypass Merchant Optimizer and still use Moogle?

Yes, Moogle is not built for only optimizer pages.
