I recall reading in November that there was a bug in this function. I'm attempting to use this function to address a county-based sales tax issue for my client. No luck so far!! :(
Question #1: Is this function currently functional in V 5.04? Bugs fixed?
Question #2: What are the best available options to address this problem?
My methodology is as follows:
If destination county = origin county, apply sales-tax rate A
If destination county = All other counties in origin state, apply sales-tax rate B
For all other destinations, sales-tax rate = C

I have not seen that this has been fixed. We're also finding an issue with non-US currency where MM5 will allow you to select an "other" currency but whatever you fill in for the other currency's symbol is forgotten each time you leave the screen, and that prevents you from updating fields on other tabs of the store properties area as it sends you back to update that currency symbol again.

Any update from Miva on this thread? I'm trying to get a confirmation if shopper selected sales tax is known to have issues as we have some customers experiencing the same problem.

Hi David,
I'll make sure one of our Support Engineers looks at this thread on Monday.

I need an answer on this as well. I just finished entering all counties for florida so that a shopper can select which county they are in for sales tax calculation, however I don't see the prompt show up at all during check out.
I have a site that uses this function and it seems to work.
We are using VM 5.04.

Chad,
If you could post the URL, maybe it would give some of us some clues on where we might begin to fix our problems.

Looks like ours just started working today out of the blue. I can't post url, because it's not technically live yet. But the field did show up and calculate correctly. Very odd it would just show up out of the blue like that though.

Progress! That's good!!
Unfortunately, I'm not enjoying the same success. When I alter my settings so that State-based sales tax is used, everything flows through beautifully, all the way through the check-out process.
However, whenever I change my settings to Shopper Selected Sales tax (and set-up all of the appropriate county options), everything works up until you click the "Continue" button to calculate the order's final total, including sales tax. At that point, Miva hangs up and (after 60 seconds), I get an "Application Timed Out" screen.
I've toggled back and forth between state-based and shopper-selected, and the result is always as I've described above. So, it seems as if the shopper-selected option is what's causing the problem.
Thoughts? ANYONE???

tenquill,
Apparently, once you select shopper selected sales tax and add any methods to it, then switch to state based sales tax it will remove any methods you set up in shopper selected sales tax. So toggling between the two is not something to play with.
I got this information from the miva5 book.

Yes, that is correct. When you change from state-based to shopper selected (and vice-versa), all of the methods/parameters from the previous method are lost.
My point is that the state-base approach is handled by the store without any problems. However, the shopper-selected approach hangs up ("Application Timed Out") when you click the "continue" button to calculate your final total.
Is anyone else having this issue? Or can anyone point me towards a possible solution?

To my knowledge, all known bugs for Shopper Selected Sales tax are fixed as of the PR2 release of MIVA Merchant 5, save for one related to multiple upsell product offers. Do the problems reported here occur on PR2 stores?

I was not able to recreate this issue:
We're also finding an issue with non-US currency where MM5 will allow you to select an "other" currency but whatever you fill in for the other currency's symbol is forgotten each time you leave the screen, and that prevents you from updating fields on other tabs of the store properties area as it sends you back to update that currency symbol again.
Can you give me some more info about recreating it?

We have a customer running MM5 with all the patches on Empresa 5.04. They have three storefronts in the mall, one for each of three currencies they operate with. One of the stores is for Australian customers so they've set it to Generic Currency Formatting and are trying to use AU$ as the currency symbol. If you put that in and hit update, it doesn't give you an error, but if you leave that page and come back, it will have forgotten the setting. If you try to update any other tabs, it tells you you can't and sends you back to the currency tab.

Thank you, I was able to recreate this. I was able to click off of the Generic Currency Formatting tab with no error, but when I went back to Generic Currency Formatting the other Symbol box is blank. I have entered this into our bug tracker and a fix will be released via streaming update when it is available.
Is the site you mention using MySQL? I would like to find out why you get an error and I did not.

What's a PR2 store??

MIVA Merchant v5.00 PR2 (Production Release 2). The most current release of Merchant.
Although I wish they'd increment the version number when they patch it.
It would cause less confusion knowing which of the core updates have been installed on a particular installation.

Put me down as PR2 store, also with "app timed out"

Yep, this is a MySQL-based site.
I am sorry about the delay. I have tested this with MySQL and get the same results that you have. MIVA-SQL does not generate an error message and MySQL does. I have updated this bug in our bug tracker.
