Making modules

So I need to be able to make modules for my Miva Merchant 4 install. I've spent the last few weeks reading up on MivaScript and playing around with it but I'm not sure how I make a module. I PRESUME I need to get Merchant on my local Mia, make MivaScript with all the required functions/hooks, compile, and then just install? I'd try this before asking if it wouldn't cost me like $1000 to set up a test Merchant installation.

The developer docs should have most of what you need.

The compiler and Empresa are free, as is Mia. However you would likely need a test store to try them out and make sure they work.

You could just setup a hosting account somewhere for a lot less than $1000.

And...you would be able to download a hosted store and run it locally on Miva Mia to do the actual development...if that wasn't obvious.
