View Full Version : MM5: Add product to cart, remove it, refresh, crash
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
Sorry if this is a duplicate, I could not find a discussion on this issue in the forum.
Thanks,
Ryan

I'm assuming it's the site you have linked in your signature. But first, why are you refreshing if you have a Continue Shopping link in the basket? With that said, I could not duplicate any type of crash. What browser are you using when it crashes?
Sorry, I should have clarified. This is for the MM5 version of the site in my signature, which is still under development. Wordyisms.com is currently a MM4 store (which does not have the problem).
As far as I can tell, this is a problem with every MM5 store. For example, go to sebenza.com and you can verify the problem. Latu.net does it also. In fact, I have used this error as a way to test if a store is using MM4 or MM5 :(.
This problem occurs in Firefox and IE7, but those are the only browsers I have tested.
Thanks for the reply.

Okay, yes, it does do it. I tested it at the Sebenza site. But it still begs the question - why do you want to refresh the empty basket screen? I would suggest you use a continue shopping link so you shoppers can gracefully exit. this screen is also a good place to include the cat tree navigation to give your shoppers even more choices.
I have the same problem. If a customer adds an item to the basket, removes it and instead of clicking continue shopping, or clicking on the home link, it shows an error message.
Fatal Error
MIVA Merchant has encountered a fatal error and is unable to continue. The following information may assist you in determining the cause of the error:
Error Code: MER-00001
Description: <b>Unknown Error</b><br><br> Action = RPRD<br> Screen = BASK
Other Information:
Is there anyway to have it go to the home page if the basket is empty and someone tries to refresh?

I doesn't need to be empty. You can have 10 other products in the basket. If you have just removed a product and refresh, you get a fatal error. I am not sure why the user would do that, but I am sure we all know the incredibly high abandonment rate once a shopper sees an error message like that.
Is it possible to add some code to the top of the basket page to intercept the RPRD action error and gracefully recover?
This seems worth bringing to the attention of the Miva developers. I think this is a serious error, as it seems to affect EVERY MM5 store, displays a non-firendly error screen, and will most likely result in the shopper leaving.
Thanks,
Ryan
The error is caused by the fact that when refreshing after removing a product, you are submitting the form again. Because there's no product to remove, you get a fatal error.

I think what is wanted here is a way to either preventing the shopper from trying to refresh.
While your explanation makes perfect sense, I don't understand why a shopper would hit refresh if the basket had continue shopping links when it was empty.
Maybe a custom fatal error page is needed...
